I think textiles are desperately interesting and really enjoy engaging with them in a variety of ways. (my personal dream is to grow my own flax and go through the whole process of making linen)

Some of my own textile projects:

• a brief description of my efforts in beginning to learn to spin
• a venture into double-faced tablet weaving, including building a warp-weighted loom using only household objects

Here are some various links and resources related to textiles, textile history, etc. that I've encountered while working on these and other various Projects. This list is mostly just websites and links to readily available info — I have a kind of half-hearted Zotero for tracking more academic resources, but this is the stuff that I both: think is generally harder to track down than more academic writing and also what I actually come back to again and again. And a lot of that stuff is pretty impossible to access without an academic affiliation.

바지 (Korean pants, transliterated as baji)

• My understanding is that baji just means pants in general — for this I'm focusing on the pants that are part of the traditional masculine hanbok, that have a very particular construction and way of being worn (although I believe these days they've been adapted to be part of everyday loungewear and fashion). At some point I'll post my write up of learning to construct and make them.
• Video on how to wear masculine hanbok, including how to put on baji (in English. a really nice resource for understanding how the traditional ensemble works together)
• A blog, in English, that compiles a lot of textile information for cultures and people around the world in different eras (this entry is on the traditional clothing of Korean men, which includes baji. I don't know how reliable this blog is in general, but it includes a lot of helpful images of people actually wearing the clothing discussed)
• Pattern drafting instructions (in Korean, but translate does okay and the images are descriptive. it took me SO LONG to find this and it was what really made this whole effort genuinely possible)
• Video on pattern drafting (in Korean. auto subtitle translation is alright, but mostly helpful in conjunction with the previous link)
• Video on construction of baji once you have cut out the pattern (English subtitles. particularly helpful for figuring out the lining)
• Construction instructions for a variation on baji from a monastery (honestly was not helpful for me in my project but it's interesting to see how a traditional pattern has been adapted for more everyday use)

Other Korean textile information

• Blog from an SCA member who focuses on Korea (really really great information here! highly recommend her handouts)
• Another blog from an SCA member (this one is more about history and culture, but it includes collected links to sources about extant garments)
• Several videos on other garments that I haven't looked through thoroughly yet. I believe when I found these I was looking for information on dappo
• A really neat presentation about baeja in different times and styles (highlighting a few designers' work in particular)

甚平 (a practical Japanese summer top, transliterated as jinbei or jimbei)

• I need to make a post about the process of learning about and making jimbei, too
• Extremely thorough instructions on how to draft the pattern (in Japanese, but images are good and I believe the translate is pretty solid too. Warning that, as far as I can tell, this method of pattern drafting is maybe not the most traditional, but it works.)
• Extremely thorough instructions for constructing jimbei (in Japanese, but images are good. As before, as far as I can tell this isn't the traditional way of constructing jimbei, but it serves its purpose.)
• Some information about Zen monastic robes, including jimbei (largely in English)
• How to do the stitching to connect the sleeves (in Japanese, but very instructive images)
• A blog from someone going through the stitching to attach the sleeves (in Japanese)
• A method of sleeve attachment that uses a pre-made ribbon rather than a stitch (in Japanese; it's a nice effect and a neat thing that exists)

Tablet weaving

• Hands down my favorite resource for tablet weaving. Lady Elewys's youtube channel is also extremely good
• A talk about textiles in Ancient Greece that includes the role of tablet weaving in their society which I LOVED. this talk is absolutely top tier and a lot of what got me interested in tablet weaving to begin with
• A helpful video for understanding how tablet weaving can work with backstrap loom
• A simple, general instructional page on how to do tablet weaving. This site also includes some historically accurate patterns with labeled difficulty and authenticity levels. I've seen someone do this one with the weft decoration and it's gorgeous
• More basic tablet weaving instructions, but this site has some other really fantastic stuff on it, too, including some really wild tablet woven projects
• Another SCA member (this one Viking Age) with some great information, including a nice handout on double-faced weave
• Some more double faced weave instructions and patterns
• Blog of someone who appears to study textiles in the Finnish Iron age? including tablet weaving (mostly in Finnish)
• Another site with some nice textile info and links, including tablet weaving

Some various handwork things (embroidery, etc.)

• Hardanger embroidery
• Cutwork embroidery
• Hemstitching on handkerchiefs (good instructions! I had some success following them)
• An image featuring different woven darning patterns (if that's what this is called?)
• Youtuber who does really incredible tatting (I want to try tatting SO bad I just can't find any local place that sells shuttles)

Spinning and fiber

• Fantastic site about all of the basics you need to know to start spinning, all with an emphasis on being thrifty and using things you already have or are very cheap
• Deeply charming guide on how to DIY a spindle from cardboard and other household things
• Some various posts about spinning, fiber, etc., including one on how to DIY a carding drum
• Blog about shifu, thread made from paper
• This is another resource about a version of shifu but there's SO MUCH else here (this person has just done so many interesting textile projects — highly recommend looking through the whole site. INCLUDING how to DIY a PVC pipe loom !!!)
• Very thorough site about all of the steps and phases to spinning silk at home
• Guide for processing and spinning rough handspun silk
• The blog of someone who has made linen starting from seed for many years (page linked: tag for posts about processing some other kinds of fibers)
• Really interesting resource all about sea silk (I had no idea this existed!!)

Weaving and looms

• The Online Spinning and Weaving Guild website... that's been defunct for at least a few years. but there are a lot of links to tutorials, guides, and artisans
• A very nice guide to making your own backstrap loom at home
• Really great step by step guide on learning to use a backstrap loom
• Instructions for constructing a "tabletop" (still quite large) warp-weighted loom, I believe in a medieval style. There are some other good resources listed on this page, too, although many of them are go-to-a-research-library or find-a-friend-with-JSTOR-access rather than click-on-a-link kinds of resources
• An alternative guide for making a warp-weighted loom in a similar style
• An example of a warp-weighted loom in a different style: this one for tablet weaving (it's much smaller and more horizontal. presumably you do not have to beat "upward" for this because it's horizontal — you can just go normally like you would tablet weaving with an inkle or backstrap loom)

Other, various, miscellaneous things

• Really phenomenal site for basic knitting tutorials (this particular page is for figuring out your own glove pattern)
• Yet another SCA member's extensive textile resource list (huge s/o to every SCA member with a website, you rock)
• Youtuber who does re-enactment who has a very good "pirate" shirt tutorial (although I think he might be on tiktok more these days?)
• The early 2000's-era blog/portfolio of someone who has made a lot of clothing projects, ranging from the historical to the fantastical
• Really phenomenal site for patterning (ranges from the very simple to very complex; fundamentally focuses on how to shape fabric in three-dimensional ways)
• Tiktoker who is a professional knitter and also does a bunch of really interesting projects with natural dyes
• If you've spent any time looking into historical clothing, you already know Crow's Eye Productions. They focus a lot on European high society, which I'm not very interested in, but I love the way they put the entire video into a period set, and I really like their content about more common class folk
• I love a good pattern drafting guide — here's one for vests
