Some disclaimers ...
- this page will look better on desktop than mobile.
- just because a book is in a lower tier doesn't mean I don't like
it or think it's a bad book; it just didn't stand out for me or I
don't love it for some reason. or maybe I think it's
good, but only in a specific context, or I thought it was okay when I read it but it wasn't memorable at all so I couldn't tell you now anything about it. similarly, just because a book is in a higher tier doesn't mean I think it's flawless or anything like that. maybe I just think it's fun, or it was meaningful for me in the moment that I read it. books move between tiers fairly regularly.
- criteria for classification as queer was largely "is there a main
character (or primary member of an ensemble cast) who is overtly queer
from the text?" but there are some exceptions for things I just
felt like including. (this includes characters who would be considered queer in my own world, even though they're from a society that doesn't have a concept of queerness in that way e.g. a genderless character in a sci fi world without gender)
- for series, only the first book is displayed (unless I've only
read one of the later books or it's Clariel). in a few cases, there's
significantly greater queer rep in the sequels than in
the first book, so this might look at little weird.
- I didn't include nonfiction on here because it felt weird to rank
memoirs about folks' actual lives.
- fundamentally please just don't take it super seriously this is just fun for me to reflect on what i've really loved and enjoyed <3
